Test hormones that are important for sleep

With this test you can find out how your hormone levels are melatonin, cortisol and DHEA looks like and if you have any imbalances that can affect your sleep/cause sleep difficulties. The test is a saliva test that you can easily perform at home. Saliva is collected on two occasions during a day, the first saliva is taken immediately when you wake up and one in the evening before you go to sleep. The sample is then sent to our ISO-certified laboratory for analysis and you will receive your answer digitally as soon as the lab has analyzed your sample.

Hormones being analyzed

Melatonin

Melatonin is the body's own sleep hormone and is continuously produced in the body around the clock. Melatonin has a calming effect and helps us to become sleepy. The production of melatonin occurs in the pineal gland in the brain and its secretion is controlled by light and darkness. A disturbed level of melatonin in the body or too little production of the sleep hormone affects sleep. Both too low or too high levels can contribute to disturbed sleep.

Cortisol

Cortisol is the body's stress hormone that provides energy and productivity during both physical and mental stress. Cortisol also controls alertness and should be lowest at night, but disruptions can occur when we are exposed to stress. This means that cortisol levels can remain high even during the night, which can prevent the body from getting back into gear and can lead to problems with recovery. High cortisol often manifests itself in the form of sleep difficulties such as difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, or waking up too early.

DHEA

DHEA is a prohormone and a precursor to many other hormones, which are responsible for, among other things, stress control and mineral metabolism. The hormone DHEA the body has developed a protective mechanism against the negative effects of stress. High levels of DHEA often associated with sleep disorders. Note that levels are linked to age, with the highest levels as a young adult, then levels decrease with age.

Frequently asked questions

How safe and reliable is the test?
It is just as safe and reliable as if you had taken it through healthcare services. This of course assumes that you follow the instructions and submit the test within the specified time.
So I spit into a test tube and then you can analyze it?
Not quite. You will place a swab in your mouth. It resembles a pacifier but quickly absorbs your pure saliva, hence the swab. After a few minutes it is filled with saliva. You then press the saliva into a specially designed test tube. After that, tighten the airtight cap and simply place the test tube in the enclosed return envelope, and we take care of the rest.
When will I receive the result?
You will receive your result within approximately 8-12 business days. After public holidays and during vacation periods, processing times may be slightly longer.
Am I completely anonymous? Does my doctor get access to my test results?
No, no one other than you can see your test results. Not even we can see them. In theory, our laboratory can see your test results, but they cannot see your name. In other words, you are completely anonymous.
Where is this test produced?
Everything is produced and quality-controlled within the EU. The analysis is also performed within the EU. This means that your test result is handled by highly trained personnel with extensive expertise.
How do I receive my analysis result?
Once your test has been analyzed, you will receive an email from our partner IDkollen. The email contains a link where you can log in and retrieve your report. Login is secure using BankID.
